The dream luxuriant grew by BlueFlyer The dream luxuriant grew by BlueFlyer
When she met the fire maned stallion she was struck dumb by his grace. Such splendid color baffled her, for how could a mane and tail tassel be such an amazing golden orange? When he moved it was with grace; like the ending of an age before the fear of darkness set in. He reminded her of the story of pilgrimage and the journey between foalhood and adulthood. Like the great transition represented in the migration, his personality was both a celebration and mourning.

Unlike all the other stallions she had met, Withereth had a genuine interest in putting their friendship on show. Like his bold mane and the elegant, festive grace with which he flaunted himself, he liked to prance with Ne through the wood and over the Hills itself. It made Ne feel like she was his trophy, his pride and joy to be put on display as oft as time would permit. She felt like she was his- in the most wonderful way.

Romantic ideals aside, she also found in him a very interesting friend. While older than the stallions she’d met in years prior, he was in no way boring. In fact; she’d had more fun with Withereth than she had ever had with Aestival in the languid summer months. The orange maned stallion had shown her brook and stream, limestone cliff and waterfall…and the cave behind the cold cascade where they had exchanged gifts only courting pairs would. Or so they together thought, that is.

When summer finally faded into fall, she spotted Withereth talking solemnly to Aestival. They were genial and friendly, but there was a serious matter they were discussing that took some time for them to come to terms with. However, the October blue eyes of the big stallion turned upon Ne, and he shook his poppy colored mane from his face. His teeth shown between parted lips. When he raced to her, proclaiming her name with all the affection of a long lost love, she threw herself to his strong and solid chest and cheered his name. Moments later they were hurtling together through the wood. She laughed gaily in his wake, surrounded on either side by his scent of dark spice and ripened fruit and the golden orange leaves kicked up by his heels ahead of her.

Thank you Bluey! I'm glad you like the writing as well- I wanted to kind of explain the piece some, so people didn't think it was something like an elemental or something <3 Thank you again!

I'm sorry, hon! Your deviation got lost in a SEA of other pictures and it wasn't until I was cleaning out my deviation updates (104 in a day, wtf) and I ran across something from Blueflyer and went 'homg.'

The story is fantastic. You've got a good feel for the language of the world. It's elegant, a little formal, but still rich with emotion and color. You also have developed a talent for lyrical prose. Some people get the concept of rhythm in sentence structure and some people don't - you do.

The image itself is just the icing on the cake. I can see you're challenging yourself with lighting and design, and it's showing. You've got your own style here, which I think does better justice to the concept than a more photorealistic piece might have done. The warm colors and dappled sunlight create an atmosphere of magic. Nice, nice work! You consistently outdo yourself, and you never cease to amaze me.

Thank you for the comment on the writing as well! I'm always kinda nervous that my writing is difficult to follow because it is so formal, as you stated. But I find it nearly impossible to get out of that method of writing. Formal is like- default for me. :(

But thank you so much for commenting. As usual it makes me feel all warm inside.

Ok bb, I've been waiting until I had my mind about me so I could sit and give you a proper good comment about this piece because damn, it's beautiful.

First off - the picture is gorgeous in itself. I love Withereth, he is so handsome, and the way he's dissolving into leaves to let you know that this is just her fantasy, that she's chasing leaves and not a real unicorn is so cool. The background is just awesome, I do believe that this is one of the best ones you've accomplished to date almost as good as the background in Showing her the World,, and I really hope to see you pushing with this more because your back grounds are just amazing. You're improving in leaps and bounds, and its so awesome to watch your style progress and all of the experimentation that you are doing because I can see it in each piece as it goes.

Ne is adorable, I love how she's almost cartoony and sketchy, whereas Withereth is so powerful and realistic, it puts an emphasis on just how real he is to her, in my opinion and how much of a Kingly unicorn he really is.

And the writing - good lord bebe the writing. Seriously, this little short story is like candy to me. Somehow this little story is one of the most amazing pieces of writing I've seen you do - and that's saying something. The detail in it is just enough to make it real, but you don't swamp it down with those little things. You give it enough to breath, and it really does. It flows wonderfully, and ties all together perfectly, almost like a song or a poem. It's so lyrical, and beautiful. The wordage you've chosen and used is just amazing, and seriously - I've got a new favorite quote of all time from this.

"Like the great transition represented in the migration, his personality was both a celebration and mourning."

It's just so damn romantic.

Thank you Feets! I'm glad you commented on the writing as well as the picture. It's like a piece within a piece. But all in all, I tried hard on both and am glad you took the time to comment on each.

I like the idea of romanticism for characters. Like the great period of art and literature when everything in greek culture was about the romantic period, the affinity with romance and love and the ensnaring qualities of it. I think that with romance on the brain- great things can be accomplished.

Okay so here i am again, writing you the comment i promised promised promised.

First of all, the picture is freaking beautiful, and I really mean that. The background is simple yet really draws your eye in, the colors are so warm and so happy, it fits the scene perfectly. Withereth looks like a God, doing his thing there, with the leaves surrounding him it adds a really nice setting and makes it feel like you are there.

the writing is probably the greatest thing since golden oreos. You're writing matches that, if not EXCEEDS that, of Pierce's herself. it's incredible, the sensory of colors is great, and i can get a good picture of what is going on around them. like im there.

all in all.

FANTASTICO.

I love how you've captured their feelings and actions within the artwork, it makes me feel the joy (even without having read the story).

I also love the background! I seriously want to go find some woods that I can frolic around in. :D

I wish half the woods around where I live where as pretty and looked as fun to play in as the one you made.

Thanks Kahain, I really love that you commented on the feel of the piece. I was trying to create that joyous, celebratory excitement that comes with a festival (which kind of represents autumn to me). It's like- the trees put on their best colors and their best show for the final breath of the 'growing' year before the world just goes to sleep. It's a celebration! 8B
