A tribute to a good, good friend of mine. He has a octopus tattooed on him, and I a seahorse (will, anyway).
Something really different from me.
I didn't want to get too detailed with the background. I felt that making a watery, detailed background would take away from the not so detailed creatures at the fore.

"Further testimony to these attributes of patience is the lack of evolution of the seahorses body style. They have remained with this body style without change since their inception. Content to be who they are, and not feeling the need to change - these are a few profound lessons the seahorse provides us.
However, along with a resistance to change, and a carefree approach to progress, the seahorse can be a symbol of inflexibility or stubbornness. To wit, the seahorse wraps its tail around the nearest object in order to anchor itself in turbulent waters. This is a lesson to be persistent in our goals, but be mindful that we are not too inflexible or stubborn in our achieving them.
Octopi are invertebrates, meaning they do not have a structured spinal column. This is symbolic of agility, grace and flexibility. He is able to slip out of the tightest places, and ambulate as if he is the embodiment of water itself. Take the time to observe the way the octopus moves its hypnotic. As a totem, the octopus reminds us to loosen up relax. He reminds us that we may move towards our goals in unorthodox ways and still achieve the same (if not better) results.
The octopus can detach a limb at will to serve as a distraction against would-be predators. From a totem perspective we could translate this to mean that we ourselves have the ability to cut loose excess baggage in our lives in order to achieve our desire."
You already know how I feel about it, but I'll say it again.
You did a damn good job drawing something as foreign and weird as an octopus, and you did a beautiful job embodying that tie in a gentle fashion.
I love the design on the seahorse, too, it's colors are awesome and I love the meaning in it - the obvious, the totemic as well as the personal meaning.
Yesyesyes, I think its just perfect for him. I never really understood the meaning in the tattoo, of course, because he doesn't talk to me about those sorts of things like he does you but the totemic meaning in it is just *perfect* for him.
I didn't think he put that much thought into his tattoos.
wow, this is so beautiful! you did a really awesome job on the anatomy too. And while the shading is simple, its really good, and I like it a lot. I like the grace in the one tentacle that is reaching out and touching the seahorse's nose, it's really graceful.
this is awesome.

Drop the Whip, unbuckle the spurs, and Leave your bad attitude. You wont even need your helmet. Because the proper relationship with your horse starts on the ground.

A long road to nowhere starts with a single step,
But if you have no friends to help you on your journey,
Then that'll be sure HELL!!
